Change Is Inevitable, Ⅰ
If you have read any of our previous articles, you’ve probably noticed we write a lot about various Chinese Medicine Patterns. Since the patterns are the cornerstone of Chinese Medicine, this is meant to bring more clarity and understanding with the unique thought processes behind how they are created. We frequently write about Chinese Medicine Patterns such as Kidney Yin Deficiency and Liver Chi Congestion.
Yet, one of the most important ideas that we rarely have written about is how the different Chinese Medicine Patterns flow in and out of each other. Staying true to our seasonal focus and how they affect health issues, we will continue to focus on the Liver Organ System since it is the key organ system for the spring season.
In last week’s article, we discussed the nature of Chi; specifically how it flows through your body, especially as it pertains to this current seasonal change. We also referenced in detail about how the liver season can make Liver problems…worse. Why is this?
The Five Element Theory of Chinese Medicine, which we use exclusively at Heaven & Earth CMHC, is essentially the process of discerning which seasonal state your body is in. It can be said that when you are experiencing Liver Chi Congestion, you are in a spring seasonal state, even if it’s currently winter. In other words, your body’s internal processes of Chi are behaving as if it were spring.
During the spring, your Chi is moving and opening. Unless this problem is appropriately balanced to correct the Chi misdirection [and possibly over -flow in a certain direction] calming and grounding the Chi is the proper strategic course. This is what may happen when spring actually rolls around. It is a time when your body is getting an extra push from Mother Nature to open up and lift, internally. Yet…this could happen any, or all the time bringing about specific health problems such as:
- headaches
- pain
- inflammation
- infections
- emotional imbalances
- digestive or appetite problems
- elimination issues
- insomnia
- numerous, chronic health issues
